Title: A way to "add" % discounts without a lot of work
Post by: Smokeables on August 01, 2013, 06:00 pm
So... After running promotions where I "kickback" 10% after buyer purchase things in bulk, I came up with an "easy to implement" idea. (At least I feel it's easy to implement without re-doing an entire system)

Allow vendors to add items that REDUCE the price of their purchase or items.

FOR EXAMPLE: I offer this to my customers now:
Packs of cigarettes - Mix and match any 10 packs of cigarettes and I'll send you 5% of your coins back AFTER finalization.

Packs of cigarettes - Mix and match any 20 packs of cigarettes and I'll send you 10% of your coins back AFTER finalization.

You should allow me to add an item that will deduct 5% from their purchase or deduct 10% from their purchase. It will be like adding any other item (make it commission free) and they will be offered a discount at checkout. If I find a problem with their order ie: they ordered 9 packs instead of 10, I can cancel the discounted item or their order in its entirety.

There might be other problems like them receiving 10% off of some cigarillos that they added, etc... However I wouldn't worry about that because they are ordering 20 packs of ciggs from me. lol..

I don't know. Thoughts? Suggestions? Improvements?

The other way would be just to add a coupon system and let my mark which of my listings qualify for said coupons.

Thanks for reading!

+1 for this and also for any features that give vendors greater capacity to promote offers, cross sell, discount etc.

(Next I will be asking for an affiliate system ;-) )

I know these are probably not priority items when it comes to things like security updates, financial tweaks etc, but if/when this sort of thing gets looked at, it will give vendors a lot of flexibility when it comes to creating great deals for our clients.

Admirable that you're trying to find a manual solution to the problem, but how do you deal with the fluctuations in currency so you don't give too much or little?

This is interesting in theory, I could see this in the realms of possibility. If a buyer buys more than X quantity of a specific product he automatically gets a vendor-assigned item to his basket which can't be removed unless he gets under a specific quantity of the product. The "item" could either be a discount based on either a fixed rate or percentage or for example a different set of Postage Options at checkout.

The gift code concept is extremely outdated and doesn't serve much purpose any longer, it's disabled at the moment either way. If one were to attempt to use it assuming it would be active to begin with you can only provide a Gift Code in Bitcoin, so basically if I give a gift code of one Bitcoin today it could be worth 20 % more tomorrow. Also as far as I've understood it when it was active it created a code which the buyer had to activate manually at the checkout, not an ideal solution.

The whole structure of Silk Road can't really be improved much with how it currently works, I've been thinking it could be possible to setup some kind of transitioning system if one were to attempt to radically improve the functionally but I'm beginning to suspect the underlying code didn't anticipate this kind of scope for the web site. Not to sound like a broken record but for some suggestions on how this could be solved take a look in my thread Upgraded Listing Options: http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/index.php?topic=182090

I see where you are coming from, but why not just handle it this way...

Create a separate listing for 10 or 20 at the reduced rate? Why do you need them to finalize at full price before you will kick back the funds? Why not just allow the buyer to buy that many at that price with separate listings?

Seems like that would be an easier solution to your problem than having the staff create special functions for your listings.

I am seriously racking my brain and cannot for the life of me understand what purpose this serves. Why does the refund come AFTER finalization? Unless you intend to use the rebate as a means to extort flawless feedback or some other dishonest purpose. Why wouldn't you simply apply the reduced price to the price of a listing for 10 or 20 packs?
